General Motors Names Gentex a 2000 Supplier of the Year
ZEELAND, Mich., April 30 Gentex Corporation
, the world's leading supplier of automatic-dimming rearview
mirrors to the worldwide automotive industry, has been named a General Motors
Supplier of the Year. The award was presented this past weekend at a ceremony
in Washington, D.C.
Gentex is a five-time recipient of the prestigious award, which recognizes
the Company's superior performance, quality, service, technology and pricing.
Gentex supplies GM with Night Vision Safety(TM) (NVS(R)) Mirrors, which
automatically darken to reduce glare from the headlamps of vehicles
approaching from the rear. The brighter the glare, the darker the mirrors
become, making nighttime driving safer.
"This is a special honor, because the products we provide to General
Motors are becoming more and more complex," said Gentex Executive Vice
President Kenneth La Grand. "Our mirrors are really reflective electronic
modules containing LED map lamps, compass and temperature displays -- even the
interface for the OnStar(R) telematics system. It's exciting to know that
despite the increase in the complexity of our products, we've been able to
maintain our quality and performance."
"Gentex represents the best of the best and has set an example during the
past year for other companies to follow," said Bo Andersson, executive in
charge, GM Worldwide Purchasing. "It is a role model and it is an honor to
work with a company so committed to supporting our priorities for quality,
successful launches and a balance between current and future business."
The GM Supplier of the Year award began as a global program in 1992.
Award winners are selected by a global team of executives from purchasing,
engineering, manufacturing and logistics who base their decisions on supplier
performance in quality, service, technology and price. This year, General
Motors honored 156 suppliers from 20 countries for their excellence throughout
2000.
