Alex Zanardi

#66 Pioneer-WorldCom/Mo Nunn Racing Honda-Reynard
Firestone Firehawk 600, Presented by Pioneer
Qualifying Notes-Quotes - Saturday, April 28, 2001
Texas Motor Speedway - Fort Worth, Texas - 1.5-Mile Tri-Oval
Round 3 of 21 on the 2001 CART FedEx Championship Series

Alex Zanardi and the #66 Pioneer-WorldCom/Mo Nunn Racing Honda-Reynard will
start outside the third row in Sunday's Firestone Firehawk 600, Presented by
Pioneer. Zanardi, the first of 26 qualifiers to go, saw his 23.003-second
(an average of 231.935 mph) fast lap time hold up for sixth overall on the
high-banked 1.5-mile Texas Motor Speedway tri-oval.

Teammate Tony Kanaan and the #55 Hollywood/Mo Nunn Racing Honda-Reynard will
start from the outside of the seventh row. After recording a top-two
practice time for the third session in a row this morning, Kanaan had what
he termed a disappointing qualifying run in the mid-day Texas heat. The
19th of 26 qualifiers to go, Kanaan turned in a fast lap of 23.142 seconds
(230.542 mph). His car got slightly loose in Turn 4 of his second of two
qualifying laps as he was searching for more speed. But he had to settle
for the 14th on the starting grid.

Kenny Brack, a former Indy Racing League competitor who is the only driver
in Sunday's field with race experience on the Texas Motor Speedway oval,
earned his second pole of the season today in 22.854 seconds (233.447mph).
Patrick Carpentier, with a time of 22.864 seconds (233.345 mph) joins Brack
on the front row. Oriol Servia qualified fourth at 22.900 seconds (232.978
mph), Bryan Herta was fourth in 22.931 seconds (232.663 mph), and Shinji
Nakano rounds out the top five after a lap of 22.988 seconds (232.086 mph).

The tape-delayed broadcast of today's CART qualifying show will air on ESPN2
at 1 a.m. EDT Sunday. Tomorrow's warm-up show CART2DAY will air at 11 a.m.
EDT on ESPN2. And race time for Sunday's 600-kilometer main event is set
for 2 p.m. CDT. It will be broadcast live by ESPN at 3 p.m. EDT.

ALEX ZANARDI

"I must say I'm getting more and more comfortable here. It was quite a
shock yesterday morning to run my first oval track in three years at a place
like this. But we worked and worked to make the car more balanced and I
think we have a good race car for tomorrow. That's going to be important on
this track, not the car that is fastest out there on its own. Qualifying
here is one thing, but especially at this unusual race distance, a
well-balanced car that can handle the bumps and run well in traffic is going
to win. I'm really looking forward to racing here."
