MetLife Auto & Home Takes Top Honors in 2001 Web Survey

WARWICK, R.I.--April 27, 2001--MetLife's web site outperforms the rest when it comes to providing consumers practical information they can really use, according to a 2001 listing of the Top 20 web sites in the property and casualty insurance industry, compiled by the management consulting firm kasina. The survey, which evaluated the web sites of 284 insurers across the United States, ranked MetLife number one for content and number three for web technology.
"This web site's strength is in education," said kasina CEO Steven K. Miyao. "While most sites we reviewed offer one or two screens that inform the public on insurance coverage, MetLife's web site goes far beyond that. It offers step by step guides, not just to understanding insurance, but providing useful information regarding keeping your home safe, preparing for long-term care, and a variety of other subjects. Many sections, particularly within the Life Advice(R) library, contain interactive worksheets that users can print out as a reference."
kasina is an e-business management consulting firm specializing in financial service companies. The firm works with a wide variety of clients across five continents, including 15 out of the 20 largest U.S. asset management firms. Their study of the Top 20 Web Sites within the Property and Casualty Insurance industry evaluated companies in five categories: branding, content, online services, usability, and web technology.
Among the features contained within the MetLife web site (www.metlife.com), the study made note of the electronic version of the company's popular Life Advice program, an educational resource for consumers offering free brochures on more than 85 life events. It also had high praise for "the Toolkit," which offers consumers several unique calculators for purchases, health, and money. For example, there is a "Wallpaper" calculator that helps consumers determine how many rolls of paper would be necessary to cover a designated wall area, based upon the dimensions of the room to be wallpapered.
"We're pleased that the MetLife web site was recognized for bringing added value to consumers, because delivering added value in products and service is what our company is all about," said John Rutecki, vice-president of marketing at MetLife Auto & Home. "In order to accomplish this, we are constantly partnering within the MetLife organization, offering people solutions that help them build financial freedom and improve their lives. This survey's results are a direct reflection of this strong partnership, and in particular the innovative use of the Life Advice program."
