Exide Technologies Names Robert B. Weiner
Senior Vice President - Global Manufacturing and
Engineering
PRINCETON, N.J., April 26 Exide Technologies ,
the global leader in stored electrical energy solutions, today announced the
appointment of Robert B. Weiner as Senior Vice President - Global
Manufacturing and Engineering.
In this position, Weiner will develop and implement manufacturing, product
and process-engineering strategies globally to support Exide Technologies'
overall business goals. His initial efforts will focus on implementing lean-
manufacturing disciplines and key-performance indicators in Exide's North
American manufacturing facilities.

Weiner will report to Craig H. Muhlhauser, President and Chief Operating
Officer of Exide Technologies. "A key part of Bob's job is the implementation
of the new Exide Lean Production System (ELPS). That includes the
implementation of a global manufacturing strategy that we believe will be
second to none in terms of both efficiency and quality," said Muhlhauser.
Weiner most recently served as Vice President-Engine Service at United
Technologies Corporation's Pratt & Whitney division in Hartford, Connecticut,
where he was responsible for more than $1 billion in sales, 30 facilities and
6,000 employees worldwide. Prior to his seven-year tenure at United
Technologies, he held a variety of manufacturing and engineering positions at
Phelps-Dodge Corporation, SKF/MRC Corporation, and General Electric Company.
His work at Pratt & Whitney was cited in Lean Thinking, a best-selling book by
James Womack.
Weiner received his Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering
from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn and his Master of Business
Administration degree from Loyola College of Maryland. He also attended the
executive education program at the Darden School of Management.
