Folding Mountain Bikes - perfect fit for SUVs

Dear Mark,

Following our telephone conversation I am sending you more details on the
Montague Foldable BIke - the hand-in-glove fit with automotive
Manufacturers. I'm sure you'll agree it's a pretty cool product that is
making a stir in the auto industry.

Enclosed:
1. Overview
2. Mitsubishi/Montague Press Release
3. Attached - pictures

Sooner or later all bikes will fold, and automotive manufacturers love
it! No roof rack, no bumper hooks and no compromise on the lines or drive
of the vehicle. No matter what your auto preference - an SUV or a sport
convertible - the true 'off-road experience' can be stored in the back of
any trunk!

Montague, the company behind the design and technology of the widely
acclaimed BMW folding bike, recently launched the X-Series™, a 24-speed,
full-size, high-performance aluminum Mountain Bike that folds. The concept
of the 'cycle and drive' combination is not new in automotive marketing,
many automotive companies have had bike partnerships or sponsor cycling
events as a means to access that particular demographic.

The launch of the new Montague foldable mountain bikes has started a
feeding frenzy with automotive manufacturers who view this as the perfect
accessory (spare tire!?) for their vehicles - a cool bike that fits neatly
in the back of the trunk without spoiling the 'look' of the vehicle. What
marketing director wouldn't love it!

With the launch of the X-series™, Montague has teamed up with Mitsubishi
Motors, to provide, for a limited period of time, a folding
high-performance mountain bike as a complimentary accessory with the
Montero Sport. Mitsubishi is the first automotive manufacturer to offer a
compact mountain bike as standard equipment with the purchase of a vehicle.

And the future ? Sooner or later all bikes will fold. It may not be long
before bikes become the standard second spare tire with all vehicles.

Montague Portable Mountain Bike Included With Purchase
Proves Three Spare Tires Are Better Than One

CYPRESS (April 25, 2001) – Once again Mitsubishi Motor Sales of
America, Inc. is demonstrating the spirit of its brand theme “wake up and
drive Ô” by being the first to offer an SUV with a high performance
mountain bike compacted neatly inside the cargo area --leaving plenty of
room on the roof for other active lifestyle gear. Mitsubishi Motors teamed
up with Montague Corporation to provide Montague’s patented X-Series™
mountain bike, for a limited period of time, with every 2001 Montero Sport.
Montague, the world leader in full-size, high performance foldable
mountain bikes produced this special edition compacting mountain bike
powered by next generation folding technology exclusively for Mitsubishi
and the Montero Sport. The bike has a recommended retail price of $899,
but is included with the purchase or lease of a Montero Sport.
“Our partnership with Montague is a perfect fit for Mitsubishi”
said Pierre Gagnon, executive vice president and chief operating
officer. “Mountain biking plays to the active lifestyle of many of our
Montero Sport owners. The Montague X-Series offers the perfect combination
of high performance and style, which complements the essence of the Montero
Sport. Coupled with the convenience of the compacting feature, we can
offer our customers the chance to sample the true experience of off-road by
providing them with a drive and cycle combination that will take them to
the far side of the most rugged terrain. It’s what we call ‘gear to go’.”
The rugged Montero Sport continues to attract a loyal following of
consumers who desire a real off-road machine and not just a station wagon
with big tires. Like its big brother, the Montero luxury SUV, the Montero
Sport boasts true 4x4 capabilities on all models and globally proven
durability. The Montero Sport was significantly restyled last year with
numerous interior and exterior revisions to update its good looks and
improve on-road driveability.

The Montague X-Series is a 24 speed, full-size, high performance
mountain bike, designed with an aluminium frame, RST front suspension fork
and a Shimano gear system to handle the most extreme off-road
conditions. Yet the bike folds simply in less than 30 seconds without the
use of tools to 3’x3’ for easy portability and storage in the back of the
Montero Sport. Based on an original design for the United States Marines,
the lightweight X-Series offers a combination of durability, performance
and convenience.

Montague, a Massachusetts based company, is pioneering the use of FIT
(Folding Integrated Technology), deemed to be one of the next-generation
trends in the bicycle industry. “We are at the beginning of an evolution in
both bicycle manufacturing and the way consumers use and store bicycles,”
said David Montague, founder and president of Montague
Corporation. “Today’s consumer is looking for both convenience and
performance in a bike and Montague has the answer to both.”
