WTA Announces Letter of Intent With National Football League Retired Players Foundation
SANTEE, Calif.--April 26, 2001--World Transport Authority, Inc. (OTCBB:WTAI) (Frankfurt:920943) (WTA) announced today that it has entered into a letter of intent with the National Football League Retired Players Foundation (NFLRPF). The letter concerns a proposed License Agreement between the two parties, under which the NFLRPF would become the Economic Development Program Licensee initially for the continent of Africa with long-term plans for global implementation. The NFLRPF is a foundation sanctioned by the National Football League and the NFL Players Association to assist young people and the underprivileged. There are 9,000+ retired NFL players worldwide, who are currently accessible to the foundation.
World Transport Authority, Inc. has developed the WorldStar, an inexpensive, rugged utility vehicle for developing nations. The Economic Development Program being discussed would provide the NFLRPF with the right to fund and open factories to build WorldStar vehicles (which for this program would be designated the "Africar") in conjunction with training programs for entrepreneurs who will then implement the economic protocols. The NFLRPF would collaborate with local non-governmental organizations to operate the training programs, facilities and factories.
The Economic Development Program is an umbrella program for WTA's previously announced "Africar" non-profit venture. Under the EDP, prospective entrepreneurs would be enrolled in a six to twelve week course of study of their choice of several previously defined areas of commerce appropriate to the use of the Africar vehicle, such as taxi service or small-package deliveries. At the end of their studies, they would be issued a utility vehicle through a local loan guarantee program. The entrepreneurs would pay back the loans from the proceeds of their business, thus generating their own wealth and creating a small economic engine for their area.
The NFLRPF will be focusing on areas of stability on the African continent, perhaps beginning their program in the nation of Ghana with projections for an additional 100 factory lines. World Transport Authority, Inc. will receive its normal purchase fees for the vehicle production lines, parts handling fees, and royalty payments. Under the terms of the Letter of Intent, discussions will continue for the next few weeks, with a final Agreement to be signed by May 18, 2001.
Mr. Joseph Sweet, Former Wide Receiver for the Los Angeles Rams and San Diego Chargers now Executive Director of the Foundation, recently visited the WTA headquarters and exclaimed, "With the power and muscle of the NFLRPF behind this project, we have no doubt this will become successful worldwide."
