SDRC's I-DEAS to Feature New User Interface
CINCINNATI--April 25, 2001--SDRC-- Highly flexible user interface features compatibility with the
Microsoft Windows(R) 2000 and Windows(R) NT operating systems;
extends I-DEAS reach into midrange CAD market --
CINCINNATI, OH--April 25, 2001--SDRC today announced a new user interface for its award-winning I-DEAS(R) mechanical design automation software. The new, highly flexible user interface is compatible with the Microsoft Windows(R) 2000 and Windows(R) NT operating systems and will have a look and feel that easily integrates into the Windows desktop, which is the operating system of choice for the majority of new I-DEAS users.
Early response to the new user interface from industry is outstanding:
"SDRC has done a remarkable job with the design of the new user
interface for I-DEAS," said Charles Foundyller, president,
Daratech, Inc. (Cambridge, MA). "Its familiar windows look and
feel is well integrated into the user's desktop and will give new
users, especially those users currently evaluating midrange solid
modelers, a high level of comfort with the software."
"SDRC's new Windows customization capabilities are at or above
any existing mid-range CAD product." Joe Greco, freelance CAD
journalist.
"The new Windows user-interface is a large step forward for
SDRC's I-DEAS," said Ray Kurland, president, Technicom, Inc. "The
customization capability leads the way among mid-range CAD
products. I-DEAS Release 8M3 will definitely help SDRC penetrate
the Windows market."
The new user interface is focused on bringing the breadth of engineering power previously only enjoyed by today's leading global product development manufacturers to the midrange CAD/CAM/CAE user. Specific features include:
-- | Standard icon layouts tailored for different users and tasks |
-- | Customizable toolbars and icon layouts |
-- | Customizable pull-down menus |
-- | Quick start tutorials with streamlined menu for new users |
-- | Custom commands |
-- | Tighter integration with I-DEAS(R) Solutions Network(SM) partners |
-- | Local language support |
The resulting customized layout can be saved in an XML (web-standard eXtensible Markup Language) format to facilitate sharing with other users.
New I-DEAS users will enjoy both the flexibility and speed to productivity that this user interface provides. "Having used other applications with customizable toolbars, a new degree of user friendliness has been added to the I-DEAS product that will undoubtedly improve productivity," said Gary L. Reynolds, senior mechanical engineer, 3D Systems, Inc.
SDRC's scalability strategy for I-DEAS to deliver equivalent solid modeling capabilities across a continuum of price points is further enhanced for midrange users who demand a customizable Windows user interface. "With our aggressive price points for full function standalone drafting with I-DEAS Artisan Drafting, and full function solids, assembly, and drafting with I-DEAS Artisan Modeler, we expect this exciting new user interface will lead an accelerated acceptance of I-DEAS in the midrange marketplace," said Glenn Wienkoop, president and COO, SDRC.
Demonstrations of the new user interface are being shown April 26-29 at COFES 2001: The Congress on the Future of Engineering Software in Scottsdale, AZ. The new interface will also be a featured new capability at ICCON, the national I-DEAS user conference, in Nashville, Tennessee in June.
