NASCAR BGN: Fedewa likes the 'showcase' setting of California

"California Speedway is one of the nicest facilities where we compete. It gives us a chance to showcase our sport on the west coast. It's one of only a handful of races that is west of the Mississippi. I look forward to going to California because of the different restaurants and shopping that's available." --Tim Fedewa

Tim Fedewa's Thoughts On California . . . "California tends to be a strategy-type race. The track is real wide which allows for a lot of side-by-side racing. It's pretty similar to Michigan. The race at Michigan usually goes with a maximum of two cautions and usually, there are not a lot of cautions at California. That's when the strategy comes into play because teams will gamble with fuel mileage. Several races have been won at California by teams that were able to stretch their fule mileage."

Crew Chief Donnie Richeson On California . . . "California is an aerodynamics and horsepower track, but it is different than the superspeedways like Talladega. Handling becomes an issue. It's a big, flat, wide track, and pretty comparable to Las Vegas and Michigan. Because the track is so wide, this is one of those places where a race could go caution-free. That's what we like to see because it saves the guys a lot of work at the shop."

Equipment . . . "Twister's Sister" is the car Fedewa will compete with this weekend in the "Auto Club 300" at California Speedway. "Twister's Sister" has made one appearance during the 2001 Busch Series season. It's the same machine Fedewa finished second with at Bristol earlier this year. It's also the same car Todd Bodine finished fifth with at California one year ago. Also included on "Twister's Sister's" list of accomplishments during the 2000 season are a pair of fourth-place finishes at Atlanta and Texas, and a fifth-place finish at Charlotte last May.
