Travelers Insurance Participates in the Annual 'Take Our Daughters to Work Day'
HARTFORD, Conn.--April 23, 2001--Travelers Insurance will take part in "Take Our Daughters to Work Day" this Thursday, April 26, and provide an assortment of activities that will offer youngsters a first-hand experience in a corporate setting for the sixth year."Take Our Daughters to Work Day" is a national event developed by the Ms. Foundation. The focus of this event is to emphasize the importance of young girls' abilities and aspirations and help them make the connection between academic success and success in the real world.
"This is an excellent opportunity for adolescent girls to see women in the workforce," said Carrie Kopper, Human Resources Generalist for Travelers Insurance and coordinator of the Travelers activities. "The goal of this day is to provide children with a positive environment in which they can see not only a female role model at work, but how a company works."
Travelers has participated in the program since it became a national event in 1994. Girls and boys between the ages of 9 and 15 may accompany parents, relatives or other sponsors to work to gain insight into the work world while joining in various activities throughout the day. Last year, over 500 children attended the event.
This year's national theme is "Girl Force, becoming the next workforce." Events planned at Travelers this year include: a company-sponsored breakfast with a kickoff speech by Travelers executive Doreen Spadorcia, General Counsel; a "game show" sponsored by the Leadership Development Program; and a trade show that provides an interactive "booth" from each line of business through which the children can learn about how an insurance company works. Children and their parents also have the opportunity to take tours of the Travelers Tower, the underground tunnels of the buildings, and Travelers' catastrophe response vehicle.
