Grand Prix Sports Inc., Through Coca-Cola Nordic Racing, Places Third in FIA Formula 3000 Race in Italy
IRVINE, Calif.--April 23, 2001--Grand Prix Sports Inc. (OTCBB:GPRX) announced that driver Tomas Enge gave the Coca-Cola Nordic Racing team its second consecutive podium finish of the season with an excellent drive to third place at Imola in Italy.Enge started the second round FIA F3000 International Championship race from fourth on the grid and managed to secure third place on the track by the first corner with a lightning-fast start. Once in third, Enge spent the entire race battling for the race lead, racing nose to gearbox with the leading two cars, yet was unable to make any further progress on the tight and difficult track.
"This is exactly what I expected from Tomas today," said Team Manager Chris Mower. "...Tomas was ready this weekend to make the most of every opportunity that was offered to him."
Fellow Coca-Cola Nordic Racing driver Justin Wilson claimed the final point of the day with a sixth place finish. Wilson had found himself delayed by traffic at the start of the race, forcing him to spend the entire race in a tussle for fifth place.
Due to the points won by Enge and Wilson, the Coca-Cola Nordic Racing Team leads the Team Championship competition by a clear margin of five points, with Justin retaining the lead in the Drivers Championship competition by one point.
"Two podium finishes in two races is a nice way to start the season for us and I was very pleased with the performance that both Justin and Tomas gave today," said Team Principal Derek Mower.
The third round of the FIA F3000 International Championship has the Coca-Cola Nordic Racing team arriving in Barcelona, Spain for the Spanish Grand Prix as leaders of both the drivers and team championships.
The circuit was built in 1991 as the permanent home for the Spanish Formula One Grand Prix and has a layout better than many other modern circuits.
