Law Gives PCH Outpatient Kids Wild Ride at PIR

Law Gives PCH Outpatient Kids Wild Ride at PIR

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 21, 2001 (Phoenix, Arizona) - G&W Motorsports #81 driver, Darren Law, gave the outpatient children from the Phoenix Children's Hospital a wild ride Saturday afternoon. In a Porsche 996, donated by Sun Automotive, Law drove 12 kids, ranging in age from five to 17, and their parents around the Phoenix International Raceway 1.54 mile road course.

"We had a blast," Law said. "I thought the speed might scare some of the children, but they all wanted me to go faster."

Paul Torres, a staff member of the PCH public relations department, escorted the children to the track. He said everyone, inlcuding him, had a great time at the track.

"The experience was incredible," Torres stated after his almost 100 mph ride ended. "The kids, and myself, were really psyched to be here."

The rides with Law weren't the end of the day at the track. G&W Motorsports and Garrett Sports Marketing made a whole day of it for the kids. They were able to take a tour of the garage area, meet and get autographs from G&W Motorsports driver, Steve Marshall, have lunch in a suite during practice and return with their families to the suite for the race Saturday night.

The day was made possible by many generous groups and businesses. PIR donated the suite and tickets to the kids, Continetal Catering supplied the lunches and A-1 Golf Cart Rentals supplied a cart to shuttle the kids around the track. Without these wonderful groups, the day would not have been such a success.

"We truly appreciate the professionalism of everyone," Torres said. "We all had a great time. The day went perfect."

Law said that he was glad he could be a part of the day.

"It's really nice to see these kids, who were at one time not able to leave the hospital, get out to the track," Law said. "I loved seeing the excitement and smiles on their faces. They were a great, well-mannered group of kids."
