Chrysler Group Celebrates Detroit by Showcasing Motown and the Motor City

Stevie Wonder to Headline Homecoming Concert

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., April 17 Chrysler Group announced
today its sponsorship of the Celebrity Homecoming Concert featuring music
recording star Stevie Wonder on July 21, 2001, at Hart Plaza in downtown
Detroit. The free concert is part of a year-long celebration of Detroit's
300th birthday.
According to Jim Schroer, Chrysler Group's Executive Vice President of
Sales and Marketing, the festival captures the legacy of both the Motor City
and Motown. "We are the city that put the world on wheels. Over the past
one-hundred years, the proud people of Detroit created an industrial dynasty
unmatched anywhere else in the world," Schroer said.
"Additionally, Detroit's Motown sound is one that reverberates around the
world. You hear it every day, in every place on earth with a radio station,
tape deck or CD player," he said.
Schroer said the concert represents Chrysler Group's long-standing
commitment to Detroit as a responsible corporate citizen and as one of the
area's largest employers. The concert and the subsequent celebration was
announced today by Detroit Mayor Dennis Archer, Edsel Ford and Jim Schroer.
Themed to celebrate Detroit's "Historic Past. Proud People. Shining
Future," the Wonder concert will highlight a weekend of music that will also
feature jazz and gospel performances.
