April 18, 2001HITCHCOCK-Grand Sport Racing and Bobby Archer Motorsports have announced that 1999 SCCA Pro Racing Speedvision World Challenge GT Champion Bobby Archer will drive the No. 08 Grand Sport Racing/KB Enterprises Chevrolet Corvette C5 at Mosport International Raceway, May 20. While the Archer name is synonymous with success in a Dodge Viper GTS, in which he was victorious in the 1999 and 2000 Mosport Rounds, he is no stranger to victory in Corvettes at Mosport. Archer recorded back-to-back endurance wins at the Canadian circuit in 1986 and 1987 in a Corvette C4 on his way to winning the SCCA Escort Endurance Championships. He has won more races in Corvettes than any other single car make-14 in all.
"It's going to be good to be back," said Archer. "I am very fond of Mosport. It's not only a great circuit, but the fans are terrific. This effort is a very positive thing. It is very much a group effort for both Grand Sport Racing and Bobby Archer Motorsports. The fact that we are both based out of Texas gives us the opportunity to do a lot of testing. So far it's been very pleasant and very productive. I am cautiously optimistic that we can be competitive."
"Bobby Archer is an extremely talented and accomplished driver," said Terry Lackey, Grand Sport Racing Team Manager. "Bobby adds depth and breadth to our program. His input will be extremely valuable to both our technical staff and to Bobby Sak, who is driving the No. 04 car for us this season." Archer plans to continue to campaign a T1 class Viper in SCCA Club Racing competition. He recently signed Super Clubs as a marketing partner for that program. Super Clubs owns and operates a popular chain of all-inclusive Caribbean resorts.
"By driving with Grand Sport Racing, it gives me an opportunity to provide added value to our current sponsors-Red Line Oil, ForgeLine Wheels and Cyclo," said Archer. "It is also a chance to expose a new sponsor to the benefits of the Speedvision World Challenge Championship."
"Grand Sport's alliance with Archer Motorsports is an all-out effort to put America's sports car back on the podium where it belongs," said Kelly Bradley, Grand Sport Racing Team Owner. "I believe Archer's professional ability, allied with our resources, is the best way to accomplish this."
