Texas Gas Prices Show Significant Increase; AAA Texas Monthly Fuel Gauge Report
HOUSTON--April 17, 2001--Gas prices in Texas show a significant increase from only a month ago.The current statewide average price for a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline is $1.49, a 16 cents increase from last month's average price of $1.33 a gallon. It is also 11 cents more than last April's average of $1.38 a gallon.
Nationally, AAA's Fuel Gauge Report shows the average price at 1.59, up 16 cents from a month ago when gas prices were $1.43 a gallon. Last year, the average was $1.47 a gallon. April is the 15th consecutive month of gasoline prices above $1.30 a gallon.
"Typically, as it gets closer to the summer driving season, gas prices increase due to demand," said Rose Rougeau, a spokesperson for AAA Texas. "Several factors may be contributing to the higher prices, including the industry's preparations to re-introduce a variety of cleaner-burning reformulated gasolines on June 1 in many major markets, including Houston and Dallas."
AAA and AAA Texas commission their Fuel Gauge Reports as a public service. The current reports are based on data gathered by the Oil Price Information Service -- the nation's most comprehensive source of petroleum pricing information.
