LEGENDARY PORSCHE RACE CARS TO APPEAR AT PORSCHE RENNSPORT REUNION

ATLANTA, GA – April 13, 2001— Porsche Cars North America (PCNA) today announced the initial roster of historic racing cars expected to participate in the Porsche Rennsport Reunion. It will include 10 cars from the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, Germany, and a marvelous assortment of vintage Porsches from private collections.

The cars coming to Connecticut’s Lime Rock Park racetrack for the July 27-29 event from the Porsche Museum represent some of the most significant vehicles from the most successful marque in the history of sports car racing. The focal point of the event wil l be the appearance of what may be the most famous racing Porsche of all time, Mark Donohue’s Penske Racing 917/30 Can-Am car. This remarkable 1,100–horsepower machine won the SCCA Can-Am Championship in 1973 and established a closed-course speed record o f 221.120 mph at the Talladega superspeedway two years later.

In addition to the 917/30, four Porsche Le Mans winners will also participate:  911 GT1 – Celebrated Porsche’s 50th anniversary with a win at the “Circuit de le Sarthe” in 1998  LMP WSC Spyder – Back-to-back winner in 1996 and 1997  962 Group C – The 1987 winner in Rothman’s livery  936 Spyder – The 1977 Le Mans winner and probably one of the most beautiful race cars of all time

In addition to the Le Mans winners, the Museum will bring several other significant cars:

 908/3 Spyder – Brian Redman’s Targa Florio winner  718 Formula 2 – One of Porsche’s earliest forays into single seater racing  356 B 2000 GS/GT – A very unique racecar based on the legendary 356  904/8 Cylinder – A very rare version of the car considered to be Porsche’s first step into the prototype racing arena  935 “Baby” – The 911-based 935 was one of the most successful race car lines ever developed  911 GT1 Road Version – The road-going edition of the Le Mans winner

However, the cars from the Porsche Museum are only part of the story. Independent collectors will also be bringing several significant Porsches. The expected cars:

 962 – Among the Porsche 962s on hand will be the famous Holbert Racing Lowenbrau car that dominated IMSA GTP racing in the mid 1980s  917 K – Seven 917Ks are expected to participate including the car formerly owned by actor Steve McQueen that appeared in the movie “Le Mans”, 1971 winner of the 12 Hours of Sebring, and Porsche’s first overall winner from 1970  917/10 & 917/30 – There will be four cars in addition to the Museum 917/30 including the original 917 Can-Am car and the Brumos 917/10 driven by the legendary Hurley Haywood

Sponsored by PCNA and organized by Brian Redman’s Intercontinental Events, Inc., the Porsche Rennsport Reunion will feature a three- day program of on-track competition and a Sunday Concours d’Elegance open to the event’s participants by invitation. The Po rsche Rennsport Reunion is open to the public and will bring together an unprecedented gathering of significant Porsche vintage race cars, Porsche Club racers as well as former Porsche factory drivers.
