Karmann Selects ENOVIA as Digital Enterprise Solutions for Managing Product Development Processes

OSNABRUECK, Germany and PARIS, France--April 12, 2001--Wilhelm Karmann GmbH, a leading independent first-tier supplier to the automotive industry, IBM, and Dassault Systemes announced today that Karmann has selected ENOVIA for the management of the company's product lifecyle management processes. The contract includes the purchase of more than 250 licenses of ENOVIAVPM and ENOVIA DMU Navigator as well as IBM services, installation and training. Karmann is implementing ENOVIA as key solutions in its e-business strategy to reduce product development time while improving product quality.
Karmann selected ENOVIA after extensive evaluation. Karmann engineers recognized that ENOVIAVPM and the Internet-based ENOVIA Portal Solutions manage efficiently and effectively, in real time, the variants and alternatives of configurations, and roles and responsibilities of those participating in the product creation process. These products also allow Karmann's professionals to visualize, navigate, review and simulate digital mock-ups quickly, saving time and increasing responsiveness to customers.
Initially, Karmann will implement ENOVIA at its headquarters near Osnabrueck, Germany, where more than 250 users, all participants in the product creation process, including staff from technical development, manufacturing engineering, digital plant development, and non-CAD users, will be able to access product development data created in CATIA, the world's leading computer-aided design, manufacturing and engineering (CAD/CAM/CAE) software. Following the ENOVIA rollout in Germany, the company plans to install ENOVIAVPM and ENOVIA Portal solutions at its subsidiary in Livonia, Michigan (USA).
Michael Burrey, Karmann PDM project director, said, "ENOVIA solutions will enable everyone in the development process to share product and supply chain data more efficiently, facilitating collaboration throughout our extended enterprise."
Klaus Schaefer, Director of digital enterprise sales worldwide, IBM Product Lifecycle Management, said, "ENOVIA will enhance Karmann's ability to continue to deliver innovative, high quality products to its customers in less time. Along with CATIA, ENOVIA solutions are solid PLM building blocks for constructing Karmann's digital enterprise."
Joel Lemke, CEO, ENOVIA, said, "Today, with Karmann's decision to select ENOVIA solutions as their product lifecycle management solutions, we are very proud to contribute to the success of such a significant global automotive supplier. ENOVIA solutions will help Karmann optimize response time and cost in the development and market of new products within their extended enterprise."
ENOVIA solutions make manufacturers more competitive by helping them manage digitally all aspects of the product life cycle. ENOVIA Solutions enable companies to use continuous product innovation as a competitive differentiator.
Dassault Systemes develops ENOVIA and CATIA; IBM's Product Lifecycle Management business unit and IBM Business Partners market, sell and support them, worldwide.
