USAC: Davidson wins Anderson's 'Glen Niebel Classic' for spints

Derek Davidson of Lafayette, Ind. is the new Stoops Freightliner Sprint Car point leader after winning Sunday afternoon's 50-lap "Glen Niebel Classic" presented by the Stoops Automotive Group at the Anderson (Ind.) Speedway.
Davidson set a new 1-lap qualifying record of 11.406 seconds, then caught Billy Puterbaugh, Jr. on the 33rd lap and led the rest of the way in his Hannig Construction/Bailey's One Stop Jones/Beast. Dave Steele finished second ahead of Bud Kaeding, Jason McCord and Tyler Walker. Puterbaugh led the first 32 laps of the race after starting on the pole.
McCord won the 12-lap semi while Robbie Rice, Walker, Jonathan Vennard and Tony Elliott won heat races.
The victory left Davidson with a six-point lead over Steele going into an April 21 race at Twin Cities Raceway Park in North Vernon, Ind.
