Corey Brooks of Monroe, NC is listed in fair condition this morning at Carolina’s Regional Medical Center in Charlotte, NC following a racing accident Saturday Night at Concord Motorsport Park. Todd Moore, also injured in the incident, is listed in fair condition at Northeast Regional Medical Center and Roy Maness has been released from Northeast.

Much concern has been expressed about the condition of Brooks because he was airlifted to Carolina’s Regional Medical Center directly from the speedway while Moore and Maness were transported by ambulance to Northeast in Concord.

Moore was airlifted because he was unconscious when first medical assistance arrived at the car and the extent of his injuries could not be determined. Taking the route of highest precaution, the airlift was called for by Artie Craig, Director of Emergency Services at C. M. P.

During the eighth lap of a forty laps Mini Stock Car Division Feature Brooks’ car came sideways off Turn Two on the half-mile TriOval and stopped driver’s side to the traffic as the car driven by Todd Moore came off Turn Two and impacted Brooks’ mount in the driver’s door. That impact sent Brooks’ car up the track while Moore’s went into the inside wall nose first. The car driven by Roy Maness then made another impact on Brook’s driver’s door at almost the exact same point as the first collision. This accident occurred in the fastest portion of the speedway.

The first medical assistance reached Brooks within thirteen seconds of the car sliding to a stop after the second contact. The balance of the timeline is as follows. While Brooks, Moore and Maness were being attended to, Hurst Extrication Cutters were brought in to remove the roof section of the safety cage, which took about two minutes after the cutters arrived. The roof bars were removed at the 7 minute and 12 seconds mark. Brooks was on the backboard just a few ticks after the 11-minute mark and was taken to the outside of the retaining wall for continuing treatment.

The helicopter arrived and landed at the quarter mile track, just a hundred yards or so behind the half-mile facility, inside of fifteen minutes and Brooks was placed in an ambulance on the track and moved to the helicopter by the Medevac team. Brooks was in the air and on the way to Carolina’s Medical Center within half an hour. Meanwhile, Moore’s car also had the top removed in an effort to keep his injuries minimized while he was taken out of the car to the ambulance. Moore was enroute to Northeast Regional Medical Center prior to Brooks being transported.

Roy Maness walked away from his car, but after beginning to experience pain, was transported to Northeast where he was admitted for treatment and was released Sunday morning.

The years of experience and expertise of the medical team at Concord Motorsport Park proved out Saturday night in a highly professional display of skill, knowledge and preparation.
