TONY KANAAN: WHAT I DID DURING THE MONTH BETWEEN MONTERREY AND LONG BEACH!
Never one to sit still, the colorful Tony Kanaan, driver of the #55 Hollywood/Mo Nunn Racing Honda-Reynard, kept busy during the month between the CART FedEx Championship Series season-opener in Monterrey, Mexico (where he finished seventh), and this weekend's Round Two on the streets of Long Beach, Calif.
His many activities during the brief racing hiatus included a trip to his native Brazil for, among other things, a four-hour, 80-kilometer mountain biking trek with his good friend, countryman, and fellow CART competitor Cristiano da Matta near da Matta's scenic hometown of Belo Horizonte. It was part of a weeklong celebration, Kanaan says, of da Matta's victory in Monterrey.
Kanaan also is quick to note that he finally has put in an order for the bike he won in a bet with da Matta before the Monterrey race. They agreed that the first one between them to win a race this season would purchase the bike of choice for the other. Kanaan plans to reciprocate, soon!
