Subaru Posts Best March Total Sales Since 1986

CHERRY HILL, N.J., April 3 Subaru of America, Inc. (SOA),
a pioneer of crossover all-wheel drive vehicles designed for the active
lifestyle, announced today its best March total sales result since 1986.
Bolstered by strong sales of the 2002 Impreza model line, Subaru recorded a
sales total of 14,530 units, a 2% increase from 2000 totals for the same
period.

The recently introduced '02 Impreza model line, which includes the
turbocharged WRX, helped fuel total Impreza sales to 2,784 units, a 77%
increase from March 2000 figures. Subaru Impreza sedan and wagon models
achieved increases of 236% and 21% respectively. Subaru Legacy recorded a
total of 7,266 units, a decrease of 10% from 2000 totals for the same period.
Subaru Forester achieved a sales total of 4,480 units, also down slightly from
March 2000 results of 4,635 units.

"Both the automotive press and consumers are raving about the '02 Impreza
model line, especially the 227 horsepower WRX," said Subaru of America, Inc.
Executive Vice President, Fred Adcock. "In fact, our dealers have been taking
orders for WRX sedan and Sport wagon models since January. Impreza WRX has
helped to introduce a new group of performance buyers to the confidence and
control of Subaru All-Wheel Drive."
