Volkswagen Reports March Results - a March Record for Jetta
and Passat
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., April 3 Volkswagen of America
reported sales of 30,618 in March in the United States, representing the
German automaker's second-best March here in more than two decades. Compared
to last year's record setter of 31,675, this month represents a slight drop of
3.3 percent.
For the year, Volkswagen has sold 75,027 new cars in the U.S., compared to
2000's pace of 82,621.
March signified a very strong month for Volkswagen's new Passat model that
recently went on sale. Even with new Passat wagon availability still ramping
up, Volkswagen recorded a March record for the Passat model with sales of
8,226, up 6.8 percent from last year's 7,704.
The automaker's number-one selling Jetta model also recorded a best-ever
March with sales of 12,810, an increase of 6.2 percent over last year's
12,058. It remains America's best-selling European nameplate.
The Golf also set a milestone for March with sales of 2,299, up 20.7
percent (versus 1,905).
