Avis Names Scott Deaver Executive Vice
President of Marketing
Appointment of Travel and Internet Executive Heralds New Approach
In Marketing for Rental Car Company
PARSIPPANY, N.J., April 3 Scott Deaver, a seasoned
marketing professional with extensive experience at both old and new economy
companies, today was named executive vice president of marketing at Avis Rent
A Car. Last month, Avis became a wholly owned subsidiary of Cendant
Corporation after Cendant concluded the purchase of Avis Group Inc.
"This appointment marks a new phase in our marketing efforts as Avis
becomes fully integrated into Cendant Corporation," said F. Robert Salerno,
president and chief operating officer of Avis. "We expect that Scott's energy
and creativity, marketing knowledge, and track record for strengthening brands
will lead Avis and Cendant's rental car operations to new levels of growth."
Prior to his Avis appointment, Deaver, 48, was chief marketing officer for
move.com, an online real estate and home services portal launched by Cendant
in early 2000. Within nine months of the site launch, Deaver's marketing team
created significant brand awareness for move.com, while building traffic
levels to second highest in the online real estate category, as well as
doubling traffic in just a three-month period for the company's
well-established Rent Net apartment site. Cendant recently completed the sale
of move.com and Welcome Wagon to Homestore.com for approximately $700 million
in stock, representing a tenfold return on Cendant's investment.
Before leading marketing at move.com, Deaver was senior vice president of
corporate marketing at Cendant where he worked with the company's entire
portfolio of travel, real estate and direct marketing brands. Deaver has also
worked as a marketing executive for several major hotel brands, including
Ramada(R), Howard Johnson(R), and Holiday Inns(R), where he was responsible
for the marketing launch of the Embassy Suites chain.
In his new role, Deaver will be responsible for the development of all
Avis marketing strategies designed to build brand equity, customer loyalty and
market share, including efforts to capitalize on revenue-generating
cross-marketing strategies within Cendant.
"I am very excited about this opportunity to build on the strength of the
world-class Avis brand," said Deaver. "My recent experience with an Internet
venture gives me a fresh perspective on the travel industry and how direct
marketing can help move revenues and market share for Avis. The goal is not
only to grow the business and the equity of the Avis brand, but ensure that
marketing builds momentum for Cendant's new rental car operations."
Avis Rent A Car System, Inc. and its subsidiaries operate the world's
second largest general-use car rental business, providing business and leisure
customers with a wide range of services at more than 1,650 locations in the
United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the Latin/American Caribbean
region. Avis is recognized as one of the world's top brands for customer
loyalty and as the industry leader in applying new technologies to grow its
business. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Cendant Corporation
, a diversified global provider of business and consumer services
primarily within the real estate and travel sectors.
