Seven-Time Champion To Drive Go Go Motorsports Car For Balance Of Season
DELTON, MI — When the ASA ACDelco Series returns to action on April 6-7 at South Boston Speedway, it will mark the return of a legend, as Mike Eddy will make his first start of the 2001 season.
Eddy will fill the seat vacated by Tristan Dupuis, who has split amicably with Go Go Motorsports.
“We had a business discussion and came to a business decision that it would be best for everyone involved if we went our separate ways,” Go Go Motorsports owner Ron Daniels said. “During the off season, I knew Howe Racing Enterprises wasn’t going to have a team in ASA this season, so I approached Howe about a program with our team and they were excited about working with us. We brought Tim Jedrzejek in to run a few events and possibly as a rookie contender in the Howe cars, but Tristan wanted to stay with h is Port City cars. I told him he could start the season in the Port City cars, but I wanted him to switch to the Howe cars so everything in our shop would be a Howe car. He wasn’t excited about that program.”
After the season’s third race, Daniels said things were not going the direction he wished and he reevaluated the makeup of his race team.
“Tristan and I are fine. We’re still friends. I believe in him as a driver and I’m going to do whatever I can to help him, but the best thing I could do for Howe Racing Enterprises, Meijer, Edy’s Grand Ice Cream, Tony’s Pizza, Kellogg’s and Go Go Motorspor ts was make this change,” Daniels said. “When I was considering making a change in drivers, I talked to Chas about who was out there and he suggested Mike Eddy and gave me his number. I called Mike and we met. I asked him if he still had a desire to drive a race car and he said he ‘has a burning desire to drive a race car.’
“Dave Sensiba is the crew chief on that car and his father, Bob, is a member of that crew and Bob and Mike go a long way back. I believe that is part of why Mike will feel comfortable here and be ready to compete. The day after Mike and I met, we had the H owe car that Mike built during the off season in our shop. Everyone in this program is excited about the possibilities that lie before us.”
The Go Go Motorsports cars will sport a different look from their tradition neon yellow-green paint scheme when they show up at South Boston. The cars will both be yellow with the number 6 of Tim Jedrzejek sporting blue numbers and lettering and the number 11 of Mike Eddy sporting red numbers and lettering.
“The thing I want to do is earn a championship for Howe Racing Enterprises, Meijer, Edy’s Grand Ice Cream, Tony’s Pizza and Kellogg’s,” Daniels said. “Our sponsors are deserving of a championship and we’re doing everything we can to earn that for them. Cha s Howe has been helping us with the cars and we are striving to put the best race cars out on the track.”
The Textilease Medique 300 is the next event for ASA and is set for Saturday, April 7 at South Boston Speedway. The race will be televised live starting at 9 p.m. (Eastern) on TNN.
