Suzuli to Build New Car for Nissan

Los Angeles - Nissan is taking a lesson from General Motors who in the past has turned to other automakers to build small cars sold under its Chevrolet nameplate. In the past, GM worked with Toyota on small cars and it currently is involved with Suzuki in developing the YGM-1, slated for introduction later this year.

Now Nissan has announced that it has sealed an agreement with Suzuki to build a mini vehicle that will be sold under a Nissan brand name. Suzuki will supply Nissan with about 3,000 vehicles a month beginning next year. No one knows what the vehicle will look like and Nissan head Carlos Ghosn says we ll have to wait until the Tokyo Motor Show next October to see. Ghosn said in a news conference that "to grow, we must profitably compete in every segment, including this important segment in our home market." Ghosn did not elaborate on which markets the car will be sold, but it is unlikely that it will only be sold in Japan.
