Jabes Jones Press Release
Please feel free to add to the Pensacola Race Info release under team press releases....... Story for the Day...Teamwork!
As Jabe Jones unloaded his Chevrolet Monte Carlo he thought he had the rear end problem licked from St. Augustine. However, it was deja vu for the McGee and Jones Motorsports Team as they had to fix yet another rear end this weekend at the USAR Hooter's Pro Cup race sponsored by Lucas Oil and presented by Johnsonville and Food World at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida.
Knowing tire management was the key to this race, Jones was prepared to work his way through the 35 car field from his 23rd qualifying position using a tire strategy. The plan was working well as Jones had moved up 5 positions in just 15 laps and was running in the top ten after lap 72.
Unfortunately on lap 121 Jones headed for his pits again for another rear end problem. This was not what the McGee and Jones Motorsports Team was expecting, it was yet another rear end. A problem they encountered just the week before in St. Augustine. Only this time, the story has a happy ending.
In just 40 laps, the McGee and Jones Motorsports Team pulled together, assessed the problem, bought parts (thanks to Chassis Unlimited), fixed the rear end and had Jones back out on the track to finish with points and some purse to tally.
Jones said he "couldn't believe this (rear end problem) could happen again." But Jones said he also couldn't be prouder of his team! "Every race we strive for improvement and this race our team displayed the ultimate in teamwork and improvement!" It was a disappointing finish for the team as they were working through the field steadily, but the teamwork displayed in assessing the problem, fixing the problem and getting Jones back on the track with just 40 laps to take place...quite impressive teamwork!
