Venture Industries Selects Slam Dunk Networks
to Guarantee Delivery of Electronic Transactions
Leading Supplier to the Automotive Industry Utilizing Internet Service to Cut
Costs, Improve Trading Efficiencies, and Enhance Customer Satisfaction
FRASER, Mich., April 2 Venture Industries, the leading
supplier of integrated plastic systems to the automotive industry
($2.4 billion, 18,000 employees, and 60 locations worldwide), today announced
that it will conduct electronic trading with its suppliers and customers with
Slam Dunk Networks' guaranteed transaction delivery service. By utilizing
Slam Dunk's guaranteed service, Venture Industries is able to replace
inefficient manual systems for delivering purchase orders and supply chain
updates with a cost-effective, highly scalable electronic system. Venture
Industries will extend its reach, cuts its costs, and increase the speed of
its business transactions.
"To remain leaders and retain a competitive edge in the automotive
industry, we have to reduce the cost of doing business, continually enhance
customer satisfaction and at the same time put infrastructure in place that
will allow us to expand our business and bottom line," said Larry Winget,
chief executive officer and president of Venture Industries. "The Internet
clearly offers cost-benefits and new opportunities for reaching a larger array
of suppliers and customers. Slam Dunk's guaranteed transaction delivery is the
first of its kind as it not only allows us to leverage the Internet to cut
costs and increase efficiencies, it also provides the guarantee we need to
deliver the highest quality customer service."
Venture Industries' German subsidiary, Peguform, will be the first to use
Slam Dunk's guaranteed delivery service. Because it has the most complex
operations, Peguform is the Venture Industries' subsidiary most in need of the
streamlined, guaranteed transaction delivery service that Slam Dunk provides.
By June 2001, Peguform expects to replace slow, error-prone manual systems as
well as costly and inefficient value-added networks (VANs) and virtual private
networks (VPNs) that are difficult to scale. While VANs and VPNs offer
security, they lack efficiency-transactions can sometimes be delayed by hours
or even days-cost-effectiveness, and the scalability required to add new
trading partners seamlessly. With Slam Dunk's guaranteed delivery service,
Peguform will be able to connect 120 suppliers in June of this year. Because
its business depends on the ability to deliver parts to automobile
manufactures on precise schedules at a reasonable cost, Peguform is
implementing Slam Dunk's best-of-breed technology to manage and guarantee
transactions with its suppliers.
"Guaranteed delivery and rapid scalability are very important to us. We
can't afford to slow down production because an EDI message doesn't show up,"
said Tom Gougherty, CFO of Peguform. "Additionally, Slam Dunk's fully secure
system allows us to move to the Internet. This gives us a competitive
advantage."
"Companies such as Venture Industries face a double-edged challenge," said
Robert C. Miller, CEO of Slam Dunk Networks. "They must maintain precise,
real-time communication with their suppliers and customers in order to ensure
just-in-time delivery of their products to customers, yet have historically
been dependent on highly inefficient, time-delayed communication methods. Slam
Dunk offers the perfect, guaranteed solution-it provides companies such as
Venture Industries with a reliable, rapidly scalable and efficient way to
leverage the Internet for valuable business transactions while cutting costs
and expanding the universe of potential trading partners."
Utilizing a redundant distributed infrastructure that overlays the
Internet, Slam Dunk's technology provides the missing link in current Internet
architecture. It offers three basic benefits that help Venture Industries
improve its operations and thus avoid costly customer-imposed fines:
reliability -- guaranteed delivery and tracking of transaction messages
between Peguform and its business partners; scalability -- rapid and dynamic
addition/removal of new suppliers and customers to its trading community; and
efficiency -- ongoing management and control of transaction traffic.
