NASCAR BGN: Fedewa ready for 'big and fast' action at Texas

"Texas is big and fast. It's still a fairly new track to the Busch Series. Because it's a fairly new track, there's pretty much only one groove for racing. That always makes it interesting in the race when you have 43 guys competing for the same racing line. This Phillips 66 team had a great race at Texas last year. We have a little momentum from Bristol and are hoping to leave Texas with another good finish." -- Tim Fedewa, driver of the Phillips 66 Chevrolet

Tim Fedewa's Thoughts on Texas . . . "Fast is one word that everybody uses to describe Texas. The track is pretty similar to Charlotte. If we have a good set-up, we'll be able to run wide open in qualifying. This is only our fifth race at Texas. The track still has a good amount of grip. I haven't had a lot of success at Texas in the past. I'm hoping we can turn that around this weekend."

Crew Chief Donnie Richeson On Texas . . . "If you take Charlotte and Atlanta and cram them together you get Texas. Texas has the speed and grip that Atlanta does, but it reminds me more of Charlotte. If you stand and look around the track, you think you are at Charlotte Motor Speedway until someone tells you different."

Equipment . . . "Hillbilly" is the car Fedewa will compete with this weekend in the "Jani-King 300" at Texas Motor Speedway. This will mark "Hillbilly's" first appearance at Texas and its first appearance of the 2001 Busch Series season. "Hillbilly's" list of accomplishments from the 2000 season include a third-place finish at Bristol, a pair of fourth-place finishes at Rockingham and Dover, as well as a fifth-place finish at Darlington.

Last Weekend At Bristol . . . Fedewa and the Phillips 66 team scored their first top-five finish of the 2001 season last weekend in the Cheez-It 250 at Bristol Motor Speedway. Fedewa battled for the win late in the race before finishing a close second to winner Matt Kenseth. It was Fedewa's best career finish at Bristol.
