Exide Technologies Pockets Award from John Deere; Also Named a `Key Supplier'

ATLANTA, March 28 Exide Technologies , the
global leader in providing electrical energy storage solutions, has been
recognized by John Deere Corporation for its outstanding supplier performance
during calendar year 2000.
John Deere presented Exide Technologies with an Achieving Excellence Award
last week at the John Deere plant in Dubuque, IA. The plant produces heavy
construction equipment such as backhoes and crawler tractors and is supplied
batteries by Exide's Manchester, IA manufacturing facility.
"This prestigious award is indicative of the hard work and dedication of
everyone involved with the John Deere business," said Thomas O. Minner,
President of Exide Technologies' Transportation Business Group. "A lot of
people think of Exide-Transportation as only a car battery supplier, but our
work with John Deere proves Exide is a growing force in other areas as well --
from lawn and garden tractors to heavy construction equipment."
In addition to the award, Exide Technologies has also attained the
classification of Key supplier for John Deere Dubuque Works. This rating
signifies "a supplier who exceeds John Deere's minimum performance standards
and is working towards world class performance."
Exide Technologies has annualized revenues of approximately $3 billion and
has operations in 89 countries and 21,000 employees. The company serves both
the industrial and transportation markets.
Industrial applications include network-power batteries for
telecommunications systems, fuel cell load-leveling, electric utilities,
railroads, photovoltaic (solar-related power) and other critical
uninterruptible power supply (UPS) markets; and motive-power batteries for a
broad range of equipment uses, including lift trucks, mining vehicles and
commercial electric vehicles.
Transportation uses include automotive, heavy-duty truck, agricultural,
marine and other batteries; and new technologies being developed for hybrid
vehicles and new 42-volt automotive applications.
