Texaco Havoline(R) Is First to Unveil High Performance Motor Oils Meeting Latest Industry Standards Ahead of Schedule

Reformulated Havoline(R) Motor Oils Provide Consumers With Better Gas Mileage
                             And Cleaner Engines

HOUSTON, March 28 Texaco Havoline(R) is the first to
introduce a group of high performance multi-grade motor oils that meets the
latest API SL/International Lubricants Standardization and Approval Committee
(ILSAC) GF-3 standard, months ahead of the official July 2001 date. The
reformulated Havoline(R) motor oils are SAE 5W-30 and SAE 10W-30 viscosity
grades -- the most widely used -- and will provide consumers with improved gas
mileage and a cleaner engine. Havoline(R) SAE 5W-20, introduced last year,
also meets the new ILSAC GF-3 standard.
"Consumers told us they want motor oils that are innovative, technology-
driven, well-known and trustworthy," said Louise Nemanich, president of
Equilon Lubricants. "By manufacturing motor oils to meet new industry
standards -- well ahead of schedule -- Havoline is taking a leadership
position within the industry and meeting our customers' needs. Drivers will
begin to benefit immediately not only through vehicle performance, but also at
the pump."
The new industry standard reflects the continual development of engine oil
requirements and contains tougher energy conservation standards for motor
oils. To meet the new standard, Havoline(R) SAE 5W-30, SAE 10W-30 and SAE 5W-
20 motor oils were required to pass numerous stringent tests in a variety of
areas relating to improved mileage and engine protection. As a result, the
reformulated Havoline(R) motor oils will provide consumers with better gas
mileage, improved volatility control, greater oxidative stability, and more
deposit and aeration control.
Havoline(R) recently launched a national advertising campaign to support
the introduction of this next generation in motor oils, which reflects the new
global brand image unveiled by Texaco Havoline(R) last year, including a new
logo, label and packaging. The full-line will also include a revamped bottle
design, which is a new 2001 initiative. The new global brand initiative is
the result of extensive research conducted in the U.S., Latin America and
Europe.
"Consumers told us the Havoline brand evokes feelings of heritage and
trust, while also conveying high performance," said Nemanich. "We revamped
our brand image to better communicate the leading edge technology and
innovation of the Havoline product line, while retaining the heritage and
trust consumers have placed in our brand over its long and successful
history."
Equilon Lubricants is a division of Equilon Enterprises LLC, which refines
and markets Texaco Havoline(R) and Shell branded products in the U.S.
