Two Federal-Mogul Sealing Facilities Earn Rubber Manufacturers Association Awards

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., March 27 Federal-Mogul's Skokie,
Illinois, gasket manufacturing facility and Van Wert, Ohio, sealing
manufacturing facility have each earned a 2000 Safety and Health Improvement
Program (SHIP) Award from the Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA). Each
year, the RMA presents its Safety and Health Improvement Program awards to
member companies that demonstrate exceptional performance or improvement in
their health and safety programs.

The awards for 2000 announced by RMA included an Improvement Award to
Federal-Mogul's Van Wert facility for being one of 30 RMA member-company
plants to achieve a lost workday incidence rate at least 20 percent better
than its own prior-year rate.
"Providing a workplace that is incident free is as important as any
operational objective we may have," said Van Wert Plant Manager Cindy Hurless.
"We have made significant head way in the area of safety and this award is a
credit to all of our employees who make safety a top priority within our
facility."
The awards for 2000 announced by RMA included an Excellence Award to
Federal-Mogul's Skokie facility for being one of 28 RMA member-company plants
to achieve a lost workday incidence rate that is 75 percent better than the
average of all RMA general products (non-tire) plants.
"It's an honor to be recognized by your peers in the rubber manufacturing
area for an outstanding safety record," said Bill Van Horne, Skokie's EHS
manager. "Rubber compounding and molding are very intense operations and it's
great the Skokie employees were recognized for their continuous safe habits."
To determine the award winners, the RMA Occupational Safety and Health
Committee, with the assistance of the RMA's Market Information Services
Department, annually collects injury and illness statistical data from member
companies based on the information they supply to the Bureau of Labor
Statistics on the OSHA 200 forms. The RMA compares that data with the
statistics from all other members participating in the Safety and Health
Improvement Program. Those companies with the best results are awarded the
Excellence and/or the Improvement Award. Over 75 companies and 200 facilities
were participants in RMA's 2000 Safety and Health Improvement Program. The
awards were presented during RMA's annual meeting on March 5, 2001.
"We salute our safety leaders with company awards each year, and we are
also proud to have external recognition for good safety performance by
Federal-Mogul facilities," said Tom Conaghan, senior vice president, Sealing
Systems, Friction and Systems Protection. "Both Skokie and Van Wert take our
safety commitment very seriously, and I am glad to see them recognized by
RMA."
