Pep Boys Promotes Four Officers

    PHILADELPHIA--March 27, 2001--The Pep Boys - Manny, Moe & Jack , the nation's leading full service automotive aftermarket chain, announced the promotion of four officers.
    George Babich, Jr., 49, who joined Pep Boys in 1996 and was promoted to Senior Vice President-Chief Financial Officer in March 2000, has been promoted to Executive Vice President-Chief Financial Officer.
    In addition to his impressive accomplishments in the financial area, including his key role in the implementation of the Company's "Profit Enhancement Plan," Mr. Babich's other areas of responsibility, including Management Information Systems and Loss Prevention, have made excellent progress under his direction.
    Joseph A. Cirelli, 42, a 24-year Pep Boys veteran, has been promoted from Vice President-Development to Vice President-Customer Satisfaction. Mr. Cirelli brings a wealth of energy and retail knowledge to this new and important position.
    Guillermo Alvarez, 57, who has served as Assistant Vice President & General Manager-Puerto Rican Operations, has been promoted to Vice President-Store Operations. Mr. Alvarez is a highly qualified retail professional who has performed at an outstanding level since joining Pep Boys in 1998.
    Mark A. Camerote, 40, who has been with Pep Boys since 1986 and has served as Assistant Vice President-Finance since 1998, has been promoted to Vice President-Financial Planning. Mr. Camerote possesses excellent analytical skills and a thorough understanding of the Company's business.
    Pep Boys' Chief Executive Officer, Mitchell G. Leibovitz, made the following comments:
