Gill Ready for Pensacola Prize

FAYETTEVILLE, GA - This weekend the USAR Hooters ProCup Series will make its first visit to Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida and the only thing that is certain is tire management will be a deciding factor in which driver visits victory lane.

The Lucas Oil 250 presented by Food World will be the first race at the historic track for the 3,350-pound cars and Bobby Gill will be a favorite when the green flag falls at 7:30 p.m. due to his ability to manage his tires during the race.

"The driver who has the best set of tires at the end will obviously be a contender," said Gill. "The track (Five Flags Speedway) can go through a set of tires in about 10 laps or so. You will have to take care of your equipment if you want to have a chance to win."

Gill adds a driver will want to stay out as long as they can to save their tires for the latter stages of the race.

While tire management will be a strong factor Gill said the track is a good racing track with plenty of room to pass and race 35 other cars.

"The track is plenty wide enough for racing and passing," said Gill. "The key will be to stay on the lead lap and be there at the end."

Gill should know how to get around the fast one-half mile track. He is a five-time winner at the track with two of those wins coming at the well-known Snowball Derby Late Model race that is held every December.

"We have built a good following at the track and should have quite a few fans come out to see us," said Gill. Hopefully we can put on a good show and be there at the end and try for the win."

Gill enters this weekend with a 25 point lead over Steve Christian in the Southern Division points standings. Jay Fogleman used his win at St. Augustine to propel him to third in the points standings with Shane Huffman and Jason Sarvis completing the top five.

Thirty-six cars will qualify for the race, which is the third race of the 14-race Southern Division schedule for the Hooters ProCup Series.

Goodson Gunning for Competition at Pensacola USAR ProCup Series Driver Ready For Battle This Weekend

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (March 26, 2001) -- When the USAR ProCup Series hits the track at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Fla. this weekend, Hal Goodson will be aiming for the competition in hopes of scoring his first victory of the 2001 racing season.

After earning a top-five finish in the series' last race in St. Augustine, Fla., Goodson and Taylor Motorsports have their eyes on victory lane.

"We had a strong run at St. Augustine and need to carry that momentum into this week's race in Pensacola," Goodson said. "I know we are taking a car that is capable of running up front and contending for the win."

After a recent test session at Five Flags Speedway, the team knows that tire management is critical.

"The track at Pensacola is very abrasive and hard on the tires," said Crew Chief Colan Ingle. "The key to rolling into victory lane will be who can manage and save their tires the best over a long run."

Goodson joined Taylor Motorsports in July 2000, scoring two-victories, five top-five and seven top-10 finishes, along with four pole positions while competing in only 13 USAR ProCup Series events.

The Darlington, S.C. native will compete in the No. 45 Chevrolet Monte Carlos full-time in the USAR ProCup Series this season, vying for championship honors. In addition, Taylor Motorsports will enter Goodson in four (4) NASCAR Busch Series events.

USAR ProCup Series qualifying at Five Flags Speedway is set for 5:30 p.m. CST on Saturday, March 31. Goodson takes the green flag two hours later at 7:30 p.m. CST.
