Diesel Engine Leader Cummins Selects Digex for Managed Hosting Of Global e-Commerce and Information Sites

Manufacturer to Migrate 30 Web Sites to Digex, Expanding eBusiness Worldwide

LAUREL, Md., March 26 Digex, Incorporated ,
the leading high-end managed Web and application hosting service provider for
businesses worldwide, today announced that Cummins, Inc., the world's leading
producer of commercial diesel engines over 50 horsepower, has selected Digex
to host and manage e-commerce and information Web sites for its subsidiaries
worldwide. The company plans to migrate 30 Web sites to Digex over the next
nine months, covering a wide range of products and e-commerce functions
targeted both at business and retail customers.
For more than 80 years, Cummins has been a leader in the production of
diesel engines. Today the company provides engines for vehicles ranging from
the Dodge Ram pickup truck and RV's to heavy construction trucks and
agricultural machines. In the early-1990's Cummins expanded internationally
to Japan, China and India. Through its Web-based initiatives, Cummins is
seeking to expand its business as well as improve services to its customers.
The initial Cummins environment is built on a 13-server Sun Solaris
configuration with an Oracle database. By selecting Digex's fail-over
capabilities for its firewalls, Cummins has eliminated single points of
failure in critical e-business components. The sites are supported by Digex's
industry-leading SmartServices; a comprehensive suite of managed hosting
services with enhanced features for security, backup, reporting,
administration and monitoring. Digex SmartServices provides the highest
levels of service for secure, scalable, high performance Web sites and Web-
enabled business applications.
"We chose Digex based on their experience, to ensure the quality of the
Cummins brand name by providing a consistent platform for security, uptime,
and performance for production Web applications," said John Riester, eBusiness
Relationship Manager for Web initiatives at Cummins. "By partnering with an
enterprise Web hosting provider, we hope to capitalize on 'best practices,'
increased scalability and leading edge monitoring, testing and metrics
reporting tools."
"Cummins has initiatives underway that are harnessing the power and reach
of the Internet to transform its relationships with customers, suppliers and
distributors around the world," said John Callari, senior vice-president of
sales at Digex. "We are pleased to team with them and provide the quality
support Digex is known for as they expand their Internet operations."
