March 25, 2001In the opening round Mike Coughlin and his yellow and black Jeg's Mail Order Chevrolet S-10 squared off against John Lingenfelter in a battle of the mail order giants
Mike and his Jeg's machine left the starting line first by 073 seconds (.419 to .492). He never left the middle of the groove and rocketed to the big end. Mike ran a 7.465 at 178.92 mph and took the win light by .1172 seconds at the stripe.
"I was more then ready for the first round," commented Mike. "The guys are doing a great job tuning this Chevy S-10 for the improved conditions that we had for the first round."
In the second round Mike lined up next to Bob Panella Jr. The Jeg's machine left first by .001 seconds (.456 to .457). The two Chevy S-10's were side-by-side until the engine in Jeg's truck started to miss. Mike wisely shut off and coasted to the finish line.
"We really turned around our program this weekend. The team morale is up and that is always a big plus," said Mike. "We are looking forward to racing in Las Vegas as a team."
