Indian featured marque at fifth annual AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days West
PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- For the fifth year in a row classic motorcycles will
take over the Sears Point Raceway in Sonoma, Calif., for the American
Motorcyclist Association's (AMA) Vintage Motorcycle Days West.
The featured marque for the April 27-29, 2001, event will be Indian, one of
the most historic American motorcycle brands. Founded in 1901, the Indian marque
is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. Examples of the elegant machines
made by the company will be on display and AMA Grand National Champions Bobby
Hill and Bill Tuman, both members of the famed "Indian Wrecking Crew" of the
late '40s and early '50s, will act as Grand Marshals.
AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days West includes a wide variety of events for the
vintage enthusiast, including American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association
(AHRMA) road-racing, dirt track, motocross and observed trials; the Motorcycle
Hall of Fame Bike Show, with 40 classes for all brands of motorcycles from 1898
to 1991; the AMA Will Stoner Swapmeet, featuring more than 125 vendors; a
variety of seminars on topics such as motorcycle streamlining and suspension
setup basics; the Cycle World Rolling Concours ride and show; and a vendor
midway.
The event kicks off the weeklong Sonomafest celebration that concludes with
the May 4-6 AMA Chevy Trucks U.S. Superbike Championships. In addition, AMA
Travel & Tours is offering its inaugural Sonomafest West Coast Quest motorcycle
tour in conjunction with the events.
