Benefon Track for Matrix's Safety and Security
Service in South Africa
SALO, Finland, March 22 Benefon of Salo, Finland and
Matrix of Johannesburg, South Africa, have signed an important contract for
the adaptation and supply of "Benefon Track" GSM/GPS telematics phone for
Matrix's safety and security services. The deliveries of the contract will
begin in April and continue until early 2003. The total value of the contract
is expected to exceed 20 M euros.
The MATRIX safety and security services in RSA have been running since
1996, utilizing fixed car installed systems. Introduction of Benefon Track
will provide new flexibility, possibilities and solutions for the customers of
MATRIX.
The MATRIX system currently offers total service to vehicle owners in
South Africa and its 28,000 subscribers include private motorists, courier
companies and large fleet operators. Matrix's services include tracking and
recovery of stolen vehicles and general fleet management applications.
"Until recently, Matrix's services have been limited to vehicle-related
offerings but our software platform and expertise can just as easily be
applied to offer 'people services'. The Benefon Track is a fantastic
innovation and an ideal hardware platform for extending the Matrix services
into the 'people' market and touch-of-a-button mobile armed response,
navigation assistance, medical emergency response and tourist-friendly
services will all be packaged and marketed. Beyond the consumer requirements,
corporate applications such as personnel management are also exiting markets
for the Benefon/Matrix alliance," says Mr. Stefan Joss, President of MATRIX.
Benefon is a leading specialist in providing GSM/GPS products and
solutions for location based services and personal navigation. Benefon Track
telematics phone and Benefon Esc! personal navigation phone are unique
instruments for these purposes.
"Matrix is an established major and very professional player in the fast
growing South African security services market. Benefon Track is a unique
wireless instrument enabling a service provider to offer a totally new
category of personal and vehicular security services. I believe this is all
that is needed for successful business and, therefore, I am very optimistic
about the co-operation with Matrix," said Mr. Jorma Nieminen, president of
Benefon.
