KMART Fields Aussie Supercar Team
A new season, a new team, a colourful new look and two extremely excited drivers that is the view as you look towards the new Kmart Racing Team, which will contest its first Shell V8 Supercar Series event with drivers Greg Murphy and Todd Kelly at Phillip Island this weekend.
Murphy and Kelly are both buoyed by their testing form at Phillip Island just last Friday, with the two-time Bathurst-winning Murphy and his new team-mate expecting solid results this weekend.
"We are more than pleased with our test last week, with both myself and Todd producing some extremely good times and finding car set-ups which we're both pleased with. That should help us be competitive this weekend," Murphy said, who finished just 8/100ths of a second behind Mark Skaife's quickest lap last Friday.
Kelly agrees; "Greg and I both learnt a lot about the cars and the whole team was pleased with the information we gathered and the constructive discussion we had in improving our times. If last Friday's test is anything to go by, I think we're in for a terrific weekend and a terrific year."
Neither Kmart Racing drivers are upset that AVESCO, which runs the V8 Supercar Series, has ruled that they both must take part in pre-qualifying for the weekend's event on Friday, despite their sixth and 17th place finishes in last year's series.
"Every driver and team always wants more track time and this is a bonus opportunity that Todd and I are hoping to benefit from," Murphy said. "We will use the extra track time to fine tune our race set-up and, with a little luck, that should hold us in good stead for Sunday's two 45-minute races."
Both 45-minute races on Sunday include compulsory pit stops and tyre changes.
