March 20, 2001TORRANCE, Calif. - Although the Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250 was short in comparison to the two other Baja California off-road races, this year's rugged 208.8-mile event claimed more than half of the 89 off-road competitors who were eligible for the 2001 Toyota True Grit and Milestone Awards. As it has for 15 years, Toyota will present the prestigious awards to the off-road racers who finish every mile of every race in the five-event Duralast SCORE Desert Series.
Toyota Milestone Awards are presented to all SCORE off-road competitors in the professional four-wheel classes who complete every required mile in the five-race series. After two events, 43 racers in 14 classes remain eligible; each will have to complete the Baja 500 (June 1-3), the Las Vegas Primm 300 (Sept. 14-15), and the Baja 1000 (Nov. 8-11).
Non-factory-backed competitors in classes 1/2-1600, 5, 10 and SCORE Lites who complete every required mile in the five-race series, and have the largest cumulative point total in each class, split the $12,000 Toyota True Grit prize fund. Twenty racers remain eligible after the San Felipe race as compared to 51 before the event.
The Toyota True Grit and Milestone Awards will be presented at the year-end SCORE Awards Banquet in December. The following SCORE off-road racers remain eligible for the Toyota Milestone Award (TG denotes classes eligible for Toyota True Grit Awards):
