CTS Corporation Introduces a New Line of Ultra Small, Precision Strain Gage Pointing Devices for Portable Applications
Business EditorsELKHART, Ind.--March 19, 2001--CTS Corporation today announced the availability of a new patented line of ultra small, surface mount strain gage pointing devices (cursor controls) designed specifically for use in portable applications such as palm-top, sub-notebook and notebook computers; internet appliances and small hand-held devices.
The CTS Series 109 SurfStik(TM), when combined with the customer's electronic interface, provides precision cursor control with linear, repeatable, three-dimensional output. The SurfStik(TM) force-responsive sensor enables hand-held device users to navigate through display menus with the same hand that is holding the device.
Housed in a miniature Small Outline Integrated Circuit (SOIC) type package, the Series 109 is compatible with surface mount assembly processes and is electrically comparable with other CTS pointing stick devices currently used for cursor control applications by a variety of notebook computer manufacturers. The durable CTS metal reinforced plastic body drastically increases both horizontal and vertical strength, which reduces the possibility of breakage from abuse, a distinct disadvantage of some competitive pointing devices currently available for portable applications. And, from a customer manufacturing standpoint, the gull-wing shaped solder plated leads allow ease of inspection of both component placement and solder joints before and after reflow.
The CTS SurfStik(TM)is available immediately and is competitively priced under $2.00 each in volume production quantities.
