Select Electronic Engine Features Online With Cummins PowerSpec; Cummins Customers Can Spec Electronic Options Via The Internet
COLUMBUS, Ind.--March 19, 2001--Cummins Inc. today introduced PowerSpec, a revolutionary Internet application that enables Cummins automotive customers to investigate their engine's control system and electronic features and allows Signature 600, ISX and ISM customers to custom-spec the electronic features of their engines - themselves. With PowerSpec, Cummins becomes the first engine manufacturer to launch an interactive Web-based application designed to correctly and efficiently set up truck engines. By following user-friendly prompts, anyone can tailor specs on a Cummins Interact(TM) System (IS) engine for trucking applications. Since Cummins PowerSpec is available on the Internet, it can be accessed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
"We are pleased to raise the bar once again as the industry's technology leader," said Laura Wenzler, director - marketing at Cummins. "Cummins PowerSpec is the first and only Internet-based spec'ing tool that empowers dealers to easily adjust engine parameters specific to their individual customer's needs prior to vehicle delivery. And, given PowerSpec's online access, end-user customers can easily research and select those features best-suited to their business needs."
"By tailoring an engine's features for its application, customers use Cummins PowerSpec as the means for achieving business success and, ultimately, reaching their dreams," she added.
In addition to its ability to custom-spec an engine, Cummins PowerSpec serves as a comprehensive educational tool, providing important information about the many programmable features of Cummins automotive engines. Detailed information on configuring features and parameters, theory of operation and driving techniques is readily available at the click of a mouse.
"Cummins PowerSpec makes it easy for dealers to better spec equipment upon delivery, as part of Cummins' ongoing commitment to customer support," added Wenzler. "PowerSpec also allows customers who may not have direct contact with a dealer or distributor, to easily optimize their vehicles."
Cummins PowerSpec allows authorized users to upload parameters to the ECM via a datalink. Settings can be downloaded to a diskette and brought to a dealer or distributor for engine programming or printed for later reference. Access is controlled by a security system that allows authorized users to quickly and easily modify their engine's electronic features.
"With the dawn of the Interact System (IS), Cummins engines have advanced to include an array of adjustable features and parameters," said Wenzler. "PowerSpec allows dealers and customers to more efficiently use the engine's electronics to fulfill their business needs."
The application will soon be capable of setting features and parameters for any of Cummins Interact System products. Currently, PowerSpec offers support to Signature 600, ISX and ISM users with availability on the rest of the Interact System automotive product line being added later. PowerSpec can be accessed via the Cummins web site at www.cummins.com or directly via www.powerspec.cummins.com.
