Mandel and Schwab Named Co-Grand Marshals for Porsche Rennsport Reunion

ATLANTA, March 19 On the road to what promises to be one
of the most spectacular one-marque events in vintage motorsports history,
Porsche Cars North America (PCNA) has announced that Leon Mandel, vice
president and publisher of AutoWeek magazine and Frederick J. Schwab,
president and CEO of PCNA, will serve as co-grand marshals for the Porsche
Rennsport Reunion, to be held at Lime Rock Park in Connecticut July 27-29,
2001.
As much a legend to car enthusiasts as any of the Porsches that will be
competing at Rennsport Reunion, Leon Mandel has been reporting and writing
about the car world for 37 years. Beginning his career at a weekly newspaper
in Northern California, Mandel has been editor of Competition Press, senior
editor at Motor Trend and managing editor and editor of Car and Driver. He is
the author of six books including "Speed With Style"; the biography of the
late Peter Revson and a one-volume history of the domestic car industry titled
"American Cars" which was an alternate selection of the Book-of-the-Month
Club. In addition to his work at AutoWeek, the Crain Communications weekly
consumer automotive publication, Mandel is currently creative director of the
television show, "AutoWeek on Speedvision."
An automotive enthusiast, Co-Grand Marshal Frederick J. Schwab is
President and Chief Executive Officer of PCNA and has overall responsibility
for operations necessary to the import and distribution of Porsche cars and
parts and for all service functions in the United States and Canada. Since
joining PCNA in 1985, as executive vice president, Schwab has held several key
executive posts prior to his being named president and chief executive officer
on March 6, 1992. He was named chairman of the Association of International
Automobile Manufacturers (AIAM) in October 1995, and served in that capacity
until February 1998.
Sponsored by PCNA and administered by Brian Redman's Intercontinental
Events, Inc., the Porsche Rennsport Reunion will feature a three-day program
of on-track competition and a Sunday Concours d'Elegance open to the event's
participants by invitation. The Porsche Rennsport Reunion is open to the
public and will bring together an unprecedented gathering of significant
Porsche vintage racecars, Porsche Club racers, former Porsche factory drivers
and a selection of ten of the most significant Porsche racecars from the
Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, Germany.
Additional details of the event will be published on PCNA's web site
(http://www.porsche.com) or on Brian Redman's Intercontinental Events, Inc.,
web site (http://www.gorace.com), as they become available.
