ALMS: Porsche Motorsports from Sebring
-The Alex Job Racing McKenna Porsche 911 GT3 RS racers spend final qualifying session doing chassis work, but retain both front row positions for Sat.’s event-
SEBRING, Fla. – March 15, 2001 – Despite sitting out the final qualifying session to work on the race set-up, the Alex Job Racing McKenna Porsche 911 GT3 RS race cars have retained their positions as the top two GT qualifiers for Saturday’s Superflo 12 H ours at Sebring presented by Dodge.
The #23 Sascha Maassen/Lucas Luhr/Emmanuel Collard Porsche stays on the pole, with the #22 team Porsche of Randy Pobst/Christian Menzel/Tim Bernhard right next to them only half a second behind. The fastest qualifier in today’s session was the BMW V-8 dri ven by Lehto/J. Muller.
Also bettering its time today was the Michael Petersen/Bob Wollek/Johnny Mowlem White Lightning Petersen Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 RS, which moved up to fourth
The two PTG Tom Milner-prepared BMW M3s – which also sat out the session - sit fifth and sixth while the second BMW Motorsports M3 of Ekblom/D. Muller is seventh, and the Bouchut/Chereau/Goueslard Porsche 911 GT3 RS is eighth on the grid.
Porsche is by far the most successful manufacturer to ever race at Sebring, with 17 overall wins, 43 class wins, and an amazing 13 straight overall wins (1976 – 1988).
As is the tradition at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, there is no qualifying the day before the race, so Friday’s ALMS on-track activities are limited to practice sessions only.
