BELLINGHAM, Wash.--March 15, 2001--Safe Transportation Systems, Inc. (STS) (OTCBB:SFTS) announced here today that it has signed an agreement with specialty fuels carrier Lode Runner Transport, Inc. (LRT) of Surrey, British Columbia, and Bellingham, Washington, specifying that LRT's purchases of new trailers will include the revolutionary Accident Control and Anti-jackknife System developed by STS.The contract goes beyond new trailer equipment purchases to include installation of the Accident Control System on LRT's existing fleet. With over 100 tractors and trailers, Lode Runner operates from four terminals that haul aviation and diesel fuel as well as gasoline to six states in the U.S. and from British Columbia to Manitoba and the Ice Fields of the Northwest Territories.
STS President and CEO, James B. Long, said, "Interest from petrochemical and hazardous materials (HAZMAT) carriers in the STS Accident Control System has been overwhelming. Lode Runner's commitment to health and safety exemplify the industry's trend toward risk management. For example, as a specialty carrier hauling aviation fuel from the BP Amoco refinery at Cherry Point, WA to the Vancouver International Airport, Lode Runner understands that in order to stay competitive, responsible companies must take advantage of the latest safety technologies."
According to the Commercial Carriers Journal, there are over 65,000 liquid petroleum tankers and a minimum of 300,000 additional trailers carrying other hazardous materials (HAZMAT), which include explosives, radioactive material, and acids, on the roads of North America.
In conjunction with the Lode Runner agreement, STS has appointed Columbia Remtec Manufacturing Inc. as an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) installation and distribution associate. STS currently is working with Columbia on installation certification of the company's full-size tank trailer manufacturing plant in Surrey, British Columbia.
STS maintains executive offices and a manufacturing facility in Bellingham, WA. A detailed description of the new technology, its mechanical principles and how the innovative safety system works, is available on the STS Web Site at www.us-sts.com.
