Five Federal-Mogul Facilities Recommended for ISO 14001 Certification

    SOUTHFIELD, Mich., March 15 Federal-Mogul Corporation's
manufacturing facilities in Avilla and Frankfort, Indiana;
Prospecton, South Africa; Schofield, Wisconsin; and Van Wert, Ohio, have been
recommended for certification by the Det Norske Veritas (DNV) registrar firm
as meeting the prestigious, global ISO 14001 standard for Environmental
Management Systems.  Once these facilities receive their certification,
Federal-Mogul will have 33 facilities certified to ISO 14001.

systems that meet the global ISO 14001 standard, and at the same time, is

    Certification for ISO 14001 can only be gained by companies that have
demonstrated the determination and management practices needed to prevent
pollution.
    The ISO 14001 standard requires each operating facility to:

    *  Comply fully with applicable laws and continually improve performance.
    *  Identify its major environmental impacts and set objectives and targets
for minimizing those impacts.
    *  Use standard operating procedures, rooted in best practices, to meet
the plant's goals.
    *  Set performance measures and regularly audit performance.
    *  Train employees to ensure they understand their roles and
responsibilities for maintaining ISO 14001 standards.

    Federal-Mogul's lighting manufacturing facility in Avilla; Ring and Liner
Products facility in Schofield; and the Sealing Products facilities in
Frankfort and Van Wert, are each QS-9000 and ISO 9001 certified.  Each
facility has identified recycling projects to achieve savings in energy and
water usage, and to reduce the risk of pollution from any of their activities.
    The 33 Federal-Mogul plants recommended for or certified to ISO 14001
include: the Powertrain Product plants in Schofield, Manitowoc and Germantown,
Wisconsin; Lake City, Minnesota; Bradford, Bridgwater and Elstead, England;
Burscheid, Dresden, Friedberg, Nuremberg and Wiesbaden, Germany; Roodepoort
and Pinetown, South Africa; St. Jean de la Ruelle, France, and Anqing, China;
the Ignition Products plants in Naas, Ireland, and Aubange, Belgium; the
Sintered Products plants in Coventry, England, and Waupun, Wisconsin; the
Lighting Products plants in Sparta, Tennessee, Avilla and Michigan City,
Indiana; the Friction Products plants in Chapel-en-le-Frith, England,
Prospecton, South Africa, and Orangeburg, South Carolina; the Sealing Products
plants in Frankfort, Indiana, Skokie, Illinois, Van Wert, Ohio, Rochdale and
Slough, England; and the aftermarket distribution facilities in Bradford,
England, and Johannesburg, South Africa.
