Teresa Earnhardt Releases Statement

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., March 15 The following was released
today by Teresa Earnhardt:

On behalf of my family, I would like to thank everyone who has expressed
support for our efforts to put closure on the death of my husband Dale
Earnhardt. I remain committed to protecting my family's legal right to
privacy and the privacy of all families who have faced or will face a similar
situation. It has not been easy.
We are encouraged by the recent developments in the Florida legislature,
and urge quick passage of a law that will protect the privacy of bereaved
families. However, we are disheartened by the growing number of media and
individuals, including a Web site, that have joined the Orlando Sentinel in
its quest to gain access to the autopsy photos of Dale.
We are convinced that if access is granted, it is inevitable that the
images will soon appear elsewhere, including on the Internet, and cause
permanent distress to my family and to Dale's legacy -- with no real public
benefit.
I have asked my legal representatives to be open-minded and approach
today's mediation session in good faith. We are hopeful that something
positive will emerge for all parties involved, and for the public good.
    Thank you.
