NASCAR WCUP: Williams Bros. Lumber to Sponsor Kenny Wallace in Atlanta

CHARLOTTE, N.C.--The Eel River Racing Team has no immediate plans to close the doors on its NASCAR Winston Cup Series operations.

"The entire Eel River Racing Team is geared up for Atlanta, ready to start moving up in points and despite the rumor mill, we have no intentions of closing the shop doors," said driver Kenny Wallace.

While the team is still searching for full primary sponsorship, it’s business as usual. "The No. 27 Eel River Racing Team is in full operation, and we’re working diligently to find a sponsor for 2001 and beyond," said team owner Jack Birmingham. "We have and will continue to field the best team, crew chief and driver available in NASCAR. With all we have to offer, and at the price we are offering, it is hard to believe that we do not have sponsorship. Kenny Wallace and crew chief Barry Dodson are tremendous spokesmen for any company. We remain confident that someone will recognize the incredible value of the No. 27 race car and step up.

"Everything a sponsor could ask for is in place at Eel River Racing," Dodson said. "My guys are focused on working as hard as they can to make our team competitive. We are close to completion of our new 80,000-sq. foot facility and we are optimistic that we will soon have these hard times behind us. Any speculation on the operation of the No. 27 race team is counterproductive."

The team maintains its focus as if it had a full primary sponsor and it is continuing to build on its positive outlook and leadership. With the astute business sense of Birmingham, racing reputation of veteran Dodson and his hand chosen team, along with the exuberance and tenacity of Wallace, Eel River Racing is confident a sponsor will be reaping the associated benefits soon.

"We are excited about having Williams Bros. Lumber on board with us this weekend," said Wallace. "Their help is greatly appreciated." Williams Bros. Lumber, a $190 million Georgia-based building materials company with 11 locations, has signed on to sponsor the No. 27 Eel River Racing Pontiac at Atlanta.

Dodson concludes, "We are doing our best to hang in there and become the ‘Cinderella Story’ of 2001."
