Trans-Am Series Announces Schedule Change For Portland Race

Miami - The Trans-Am Series for the BFGoodrich Tires Cup and the Panoz/Sanchez Group today announced that the series’ race in Portland will be held on Saturday, August 4 to take advantage of a live two-hour television opportunity on the Speedvision Network.

The Trans-Am Series race will be contested over 125 miles and will be one of three “pit stop” races run this season. The other “pit stop” races will be on May 20 at Mosport and September 9 at Laguna Seca.

As result of the change, the Trans-Am Race will be televised live by Speedvision at 4:00 p.m. (Eastern). The broadcast will be one of the four live appearances that the Trans-Am Series will make during the 2001 season.

“This schedule change is being made to accomodate live television,” said executive director John Clagett. “The Trans-Am Series for the BFGoodrich Tires Cup is certainly looking forward to returning to Portland. It’s been five years since our last Portland visit, but race fans of the Pacific Northwest, who have enjoyed the Trans-Am Series in the past can look forward with great anticipation to our new look and this year’s competitive championship. Live television only enhances the weekend.”
