Chrysler Group Partners With 32nd NAACP Image Awards
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., March 8 Chrysler Group is title
sponsor of the 32nd NAACP Image Awards airing this Friday, March 9, 2001, on
the FOX Network. Hosted by comedian/actor Chris Tucker, the show will feature
a dazzling array of African American talent from film, television, literature
and the recording arts. In addition to performance awards, special honors
will be presented to former U.S. President Bill Clinton and actor Sidney
Poitier.
Citing his leadership on issues of race and affirmative action, NAACP
President Kweisi Mfume said, "We are deeply honored to bestow the NAACP
President's Award to the 42nd President of the United States, William
Jefferson Clinton." Mfume praised Clinton for creating the first-ever White
House Initiative on Race and his appointment of more African Americans,
Latinos, Asians and women to cabinet positions than any other president in
U.S. history.
Acclaimed actor Sidney Poitier will be honored with the prestigious Hall
of Fame Award for his pioneering screen work that spans a 50-year career.
Poitier was credited for creating a foundation in Hollywood for countless
other Black performers and directors.
The star studded NAACP Image Awards will air 8 p.m. Friday on FOX.
