Hayes Lemmerz Bowling Green Operations Receives Ford Q1 Award for Excellence

    NORTHVILLE, Mich., March 8 Hayes Lemmerz International,
Inc. today announced that its Bowling Green, Kentucky Operations
has received the coveted Ford Q1 Award.
    The Q1 Award is Ford's recognition of suppliers that have achieved a
sustained level of excellence in customer satisfaction by meeting the
automaker's requirements for quality, delivery, materials management and
engineering.  The Q1 process is based on a twofold approach, which combines
prior receipt of ISO 9000 certification with Ford's detailed analysis of four
key service areas including continuous improvement, customer focus and
satisfaction, structure team problem solving and business planning -- all
components of an effective total quality management system.
    "This is the result of a tremendous amount of hard work by everyone in the
plant," said William Linski, President of Hayes Lemmerz' North American
Fabricated Wheels Business Unit.  "The entire Ford Q1 certification process
has helped the Bowling Green Operations reach a greater level of quality for
its entire customer base."
