Auto Enthusiasts Use Web More Than Others

Auto enthusiasts use web more than others

According to a study by SEMA and GR8TRIDE.com, automotive enthusiasts do use the Internet for research.

Some people stereotype the guy in his garage working hard on his car as someone who wants little to do with the Web. This stereotype is way off base, said George Vrabeck, CEO of GR8RIDE, PRIMEDIA’s online resource for automotive enthusiasts. PRIMEDIA publishes several automotive consumer magazines.

“The most interesting thing we found was that auto enthusiasts use the Internet more heavily than the general population,” said Vrabeck. “And, the ones using the Internet spend significantly more than ones that don’t.”

The study also says:

The Internet is second (73 percent) to magazines (95 percent) as a source of information for car or truck improvement projects for automotive enthusiasts.

Eighty-five percent of automotive enthusiasts, who completed a car or truck improvement project in the past year, searched the Internet for ideas, or to locate or purchase parts.

These enthusiasts used the Internet to look for parts (83 percent), seek project ideas (72 percent), compare parts from manufacturers (72 percent) or compare prices from different vendors (72 percent).
